Snake game.
Big appetite. Limited space.
Play Snake online for free
A little hungry? Play classic Snake right in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer. Eat the coral fruit, grow longer and try to beat your high score. No download, no signup, no waiting room. Just you and a steadily less convenient tail.
This is wraparound Snake: the edges are not the enemy. Leave the left side and return on the right, or cross the top and reappear at the bottom. Your direction and speed stay the same. Running into your own body ends the round; filling the board wins it.
How to play Snake
- Start: press the centre play button below the board. On a keyboard, focus the game and press Space or Enter.
- Mobile and touch: tap the four direction buttons to steer, or swipe on the board. Tapping your current direction does nothing. You cannot reverse straight into yourself.
- Keyboard: use the arrow keys or WASD to turn. Plan your turns before the snake reaches its own body.
- Eat and grow: each fruit adds one point and one body segment. New fruit appears on an empty cell, never inside the snake.
- Pause: use the centre pause button or press Space while controlling the game. Leaving the tab pauses play too; resume when you are ready. The sound button lets you mute the effects.
Snake tips for a higher score
- Plan the exit, not just the bite. Before turning towards fruit, check where you can go after eating it. The shortest path is not always the safest.
- Look across the seam. Wrapping can get you out of a tight corner, but check the opposite edge first. Your body may already be waiting there.
- Leave yourself room. Early on, use wide routes instead of small loops. As the board fills, watch which spaces your moving tail is about to free.
- Turn deliberately. Rapid taps can queue upcoming turns. A planned corner beats a panicked flurry, especially as the snake gets faster.
One more round, or challenge a friend
After a round, Play Again gives you a fresh game with the score, length and speed reset. Your personal best stays. Or choose Challenge a friend to share a link with your score as the target. They get the same starting setup and rules, but later fruit positions can differ because your snakes take different routes. A little friendly competition, not a verified leaderboard.
Snake game questions
What is the highest possible score?
The maximum is 316 points. The board has 20 columns and 16 rows, or 320 cells. You start with 4 body segments and earn one point per fruit, so eating 316 fruit fills every cell and wins the game.
Does Snake get faster as you play?
Yes. The snake speeds up every four points until it reaches its speed limit. There is no countdown: the challenge comes from a longer body and less room to turn, not a timer running out.
Is this a multiplayer Snake game?
No. Each person plays their own single-player round. Friend challenges let you compare scores through a shared link, at your own pace. You do not share a live board or need an account.
Will my high score be saved?
Your personal best is saved in this browser when local storage is available. It does not sync across devices, and clearing site data removes it. If saving is blocked, the game shows a notice and you can still play and share your result.
